Richard Poplawski, 23, met officers at the doorway and shot two of them in the head immediately, Harper said. An officer who tried to help the two also was killed.
Poplawski, armed with an assault rifle and two other guns, then held police at bay for four hours
At 7 a.m., (Officers) Sciullo and Mayhle responded to a 911 call from Poplawski's mother, who remained holed up in the basement during the entire dispute and escaped unharmed, Harper said.
Poplawski had feared "the Obama gun ban that's on the way" and "didn't like our rights being infringed upon," said Edward Perkovic, his best friend.
Perkovic, 22, said he got a call at work from him in which he said, "Eddie, I am going to die today. … Tell your family I love them and I love you."
Perkovic said: "I heard gunshots and he hung up. … He sounded like he was in pain, like he got shot."
Poplawski had once tried to join the Marines, but was kicked out of boot camp after throwing a food tray at a drill sergeant, Perkovic said.
Another longtime friend, Aaron Vire, said Poplawski feared that President Barack Obama was going to take away his rights, though he said he "wasn't violently against Obama."
On two separate occasions recently, The Reverend has blogged about encouragement to violence being carried out by right wing media brand names. There was Jim Adkisson, the Fox teevee loving, Bernard Goldberg-book reading murderer who entered a Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville, Tenn. and started shooting up the place, killing two……because of what "liberals had done to the country".
There was my blog about Glenn Beck and his new Fox teevee program where he incites unhappy right wing campers to violence……
Beck: "don't get me wrong, I am against the government,…and I do think they have been betraying the principles of our Founders." "Do the soldiers come in, and do they fight with the people? What does the Army, what does the military do?" Guest, Michael Scheurer, "I don't think the military is going to shoot on the American people." Beck…"People are training for civil unrest all over this country."
Right wing propaganda is starting to bear fruit inside America. Ugly, rotten, bloody and violent fruit. Three dead Pittsburgh cops because some stupid kid owned an illegal assault weapon and heard phony propaganda from people like Rush Limbaugh, Annie Coulter, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and the rest of the freak show, that President Obama was going to take his guns.
All the tough talk, and lies, during the criminal Bush-Cheney administration, by these same right wing spewers of hate…has now led to open calls for the failure of a new Democratic president. All the "anti-American", "traitor", "terrorist sympathizer" name calling by these extremist media nuts during Bush have now turned into open calls for resistance and fear mongering about Democrats coming to take Americans' guns.
Propaganda bears fruit. Violent, hateful propaganda….propaganda which purposely deceives to rile up violent leanings, propaganda which lies, purposely, about a new president, which leads directly to some dumb kid killing three cops in Pittsburgh…..is propaganda whose spewers should be punished to the full extent of the law as accomplices.
The longer the Becks and the O'Reillys and the Hannitys and the Limbaughs and the Savages and all their little wannabe imitators continue this campaign of fear and distortion, spreading hate and lies to their audiences and anyone gullible enough to believe every misleading canard that they screech from their media pulpits, the more incidents like the murder of these three Pittsburgh police officers by deluded and unstable individuals will continue to occur.
Word up.
Examples of propaganda spewing, right wing gun nut blogs here and here.
Finally,….the crying, sicko-f*ck, Glenn Beck….has his new, new program on Fox Lies which he calls "The 9/12 Project." It goes pretty much without saying that Beck should be kicked off the air right now for inciting national violence…but alas, no…..America is the land of assault gun-toting, bullsh*t slinging, cowboy wannabes….so Glenny's great new 9/12 stupidity show launches with the blog headline…….."We Surround Them."
And this…..3 day-old Pittsburgh newspaper article.

Wow. The Rev shows his true colors as a free speech crushing Nazi.
There is so much wrong with your post that I barely know where to start.
- As of yet, there is no known cause and effect between the Pittsburgh shooter's acts and his fear that Obama would ban guns. The article you quoted even cited anecdotal evidence that the shooter didn't advocate violence against Obama. Yet that doesn't stop you from spewing your unfounded knee-jerk hate propaganda.
- "the crying, sicko-f*ck, Glenn Beck….on Fox Lies which he calls "The 9/12 Project." It goes pretty much without saying that Beck should be kicked off the air right now for inciting national violence"
Here are the principles Beck promotes with his "sicko-f*ck" 9/12 Project:
1. America Is Good.
2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.
I suggest that if the Rev thinks any of the above is "sicko-f*ck", then it is the Rev who is the radical extremist, not Glenn Beck.
- Disagreeing with Obama is not an incitement to violence. I can't believe I even have to mention this to you in America, of all places, but you seem not to get it.
That's it for you. I shouldn't even have dignified this claptrap with a response.
1 & 2 are superstitious.
3 is something Beck wouldn't know about if it was permanently attached to his neck.
4..define sacred. ultimate authority of what?
5..except for the Decider and his Dick…and Scooter, and of course Karl.
6..is a straw-man-creating sentence looking for a phony argument.
7 Government taxes people, thus….it is forcing you.
8 Unless Republicans control the federal government.
9 We vote every 2 years. That's how much the government answers to us.
Beck is near insanity…..much like his hero, Rush. Beck, especially, is inciting violence. Ideological blindness, I guess, can prevent someone from understanding that. These nuts have the same neo-con attitude that W and Dick had. Violence is the answer. First resort.
Less than two months into a new Democratic administration and the resident Fox nuts are telling their viewers to prepare for civil war. Can't you see the sedition?
When you go, you go hook, line and sinker, Reverend.
Thanks for proving my point, Rev.
Hey, more info has come out about the Pittsburgh cop killer. He was into conspiracy theories and believed that Jews secretly run the country. That sounds like you, Rev. I guess that makes you a dangerous radical who incites violence. I'll notify ohio.com that you are withdrawing your blog immediately.
Oh, I'm sorry…..I must have misunderstood the great patriotic words and actions of Fox news, in general, and Mr. Beck, in particular.
I don't know what came over me. Of course it's perfectly fine…to remind Americans that they'll need to fight their government some time while Mr Obama is it's president. I mean…duh….he's a Democrat.
And I don't know how I got off the track….thinking that a guy who kills cops, and was afraid Obama would take his guns, got his ideas from Fox and other patriotic radio talkers who say the same stuff.
Sorry…for putting 2 and 2 together.
On this thread, you've come out against freedom of speech, America, God, the Second Amendment, and the Declaration of Independence. The only thing you've proven about Glenn Beck is that you don't watch his show, and that you don't watch Fox News. I don't recall Beck or Fox News ever saying we'll have to "fight their goverment while Mr. Obama is president," except in a figurative sense, as in 'fight back.' That's what politics is. What Beck and Fox News engage in is dissent, you know, that speaking truth to power idea that you used understand perfectly until the exact second Obama set foot in the White House.
The Pittsburgh cop killer had problems, as did the NY mass murderer. No free political speech should be cancelled because of them, as you suggested, Mr. Nazi. You know, you left out the fact that we had a cop killer in Oakland too, and then hundreds of people protested IN FAVOR of the cop killer and against the police after the guy killed 4 cops. Those people marched in the streets and called the POLICE terrorists. I didn't hear the Reverend condemning the entire political left because of it, even though such demonstrations are ENTIRELY an expression of the left. I didn't hear the Reverend condemn Obama for inciting violence by saying people SHOULD be outraged over the AIG bonuses, or when Obama told the bankers "I'm the only thing between you and the pitchforks." Leftist political thought was responsible for about 120 million deaths in the 20th century, but you don't hear me saying the left has no right to speak. You are exhibiting the mindset of a tyrant who thinks only his views should be aired. Wrong, bitch (I use the word 'bitch' for that 'YA!' effect you said you endorse).
Using the tragic deaths of three law enforcement officers to score cheap political points and badmouth free speech.
I suppose it's the world we live in under the leadership of this new administration.
Using the tragic deaths of thousands of innocents to unite a country to ok an illegal war based on lies to accomplish what your daddy couldn't. I suppose it was the world we lived in under the leadership of the old administration.
Conservatives, sadly, have become the party of no, alright.
The party of no consequences for their actions.
Lie about Iraq? No problem and no consequences.
Torture? No problem and no consequences.
Scooter? Shouldn't convict, when convicted, no consequences.
Inciting violence and revolution? No problem and, naturally, no consequences.
The conservative party has become a lawless, cowboy outfit…..never, ever, ever to be held responsible or accountable for their own words or actions.
This discussion has nothing to do with free speech. It has to do with seditious speech and it has to do with being held accountable for words and actions that foment violence.
What's any of that have to do with the present situation, G-mann?
And of course every time you post on this subject it shows just how much it has turned into an effort to limit speech, Reverend.
You fellows can add 'the party of limiting free speech' to the 'party of high taxes' on your resume.
Rev says this is about "seditious speech," not "free speech."
I haven't heard any seditious speech coming from the GOP, but I suppose that doesn't matter. The Rev's definition of seditious speech is "anti-Obama speech."
And Rev, you ignored almost my entire post. No surprise there either.
Now that you've proposed eliminating the First Amendment, Rev, what is in store for you next ? Maybe you can suggest placing the entire Republican party in those alleged FEMA camps, so we can protect the country from their "sedition." Then you can go to Nazis 'R Us and get fitted for a nice pair of jackboots.
It's not about free speech…it's about responsible speech.
Unless inciting violence is an acceptable practice.
Yelling "fire" in a crowded theater……is like yelling "Obama's gonna' take your guns" in a crowd of wingnuts.
And the worst part of it is that "Obama's gonna take your guns"…is a purposeful lie meant specifically to incite.
