The Conservative Bowel Movement

I caught a couple hours of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Friday afternoon. I heard Mike Pence (R-IN) act all stern as he spewed forth a bunch of nonsense. I saw Mike Huckabee use some of his old-fashioned Christian bile in yet another attempt to be humorous. Lead balloon. Speaker after speaker came forward and yet not one new idea. Not one. Sad, really.

The present day conservative movement began with Richard Nixon's southern strategy. Baiting white Americans with fear of the darkies. Southern states just loved it. "Victimized" whites had a political party that represented their perceived victimhood. Ronnie Reagan carried this torch forward and attracted the likes of the Moral Majority by throwing out a few more morality dog bones. Karl Rove and his pet, George W. Bush, took this mess to it's logical conclusion through 8 years of deception and illusion.

That logical conclusion was witnessed last evening in Mr. Rush Limbaugh's keynote speaker address to this year's CPAC gathering. Transcript.

The conclusion? The modern conservative movement is no longer simply on life support…..I'm sad to announce, it passed away.

CNN carried Mr. Limbaugh's long "speech" late yesterday afternoon….commercial free! Yep, CNN treated a hate-radio emcee like he was the president of the U.S. That, in itself, is worthy of a separate blog post. But setting that aside…if anyone watched Rush yesterday, what did he have to offer with his lengthy ramble?

I heard three things that I thought might resemble concepts, you know, evidence of brain cell function. Tax cuts….I heard Rush say that one once. Subsequently, I heard the words "liberty" and "freedom." Anyone out there not down with liberty and freedom? Anyone?

Rush Limbaugh is now the de-facto leader of the leftover sewage from the modern conservative movement. And how appropriate. Limbaugh, as he demonstrated in his "speech", is a hate-mongering gutter snipe who is so in love with himself, for yet unknown reasons, that he can't help but fill an hour plus talk with multiple references to himself. Masturbatory would be another applicable word of description.

Poking fun at President Obama and the Democrats by spraying noxious bile all around the room for over an hour, while simultaneously offering up absolutely nothing in the form of a new idea…represented the-long hoped-for bowel movement of America, so to speak, ridding the body politic of the waste product that is all that remains of the modern conservative movement.

All that's left is the….wiping part.

Here's a few of the lowlights…..don't forget to hold your nose…..

Then the flush….."the only way we will be successful is if we listen to Rush Limbaugh."…

Rev, i am with you on the Rush Limbaugh thing. He is a big blowhard that has made a lot of money spewing bullsh*t and fear. It is his job, he is a comedian of sorts like Stewart Smalley(Al Franken). He has hurt and misled the conservatives and they need to distance themselves from him, many Reps feel like this. Basically you should like him, he could be the lefts best tool.

I will even pass the Charmin if he would just go away…….

  • larry d.

Most folks think of Limbaugh as just another radio host but the lefties seem to see him as a sort of "yang" to the President's "ying."

It's a national disgrace that the office has sunk to that level but I suppose it's the world we live in these days.

  • larry d.

Woops, I meant 'yin.' A typically racist mistake on my part.

  • The Reverend

I admit, larry, I am slowing down in my old, you know, age. But you should know better than to type this….

"Most folks think of Limbaugh as just another radio host."

And that would be why CPAC, representing the vast majority of the GOP, invited Rush to be keynote, because he was just another radio host.

It wouldn't have been because Rush, simply one of the thousands just like him out there, has a listening audience somewhere between 10 and 20 million. That couldn't be it…because folks think of Rush as just your average disc jockey.

Here's the level "we've sunk to". The Republican political party is now represented nationally by a talk-radio entertainer. Obama was only acknowledging what the GOP'ers have been saying for a few months. Rush is heading the party. Proven again at CPAC.

These guys have a helluva ugly mess on their hands.

  • mary

I turned on CNN yesterday in time to hear Limbaugh say something like — Obama has amazing oratorical skills — I just wish he would use them to lead the American people. I rushed around the sink, stubbed my toe on the end table, cursed at the table and LImbaugh, and them grabbed the remote and turned the TV off. The TV has not been on since then. I wonder if it is safe to turn it on now or maybe I should wait a bit longer.

  • Tbomb

Personally I find the opinions of a thrice married morbidly obese junkie to insightful and apparently so do most Republicans.

  • larry d.

Entertainers often are asked to speak at these types of functions and it's all in good fun usually. For some reason, even the administration seems to see Rush as an equal rival to Obama, engaging in sniping exchanges, etc.

It's an embarrassment but I suppose it's where we are right now with this administration.

  • The Reverend

    Real time revisionism.

Obama said, "Just listening to Rush Limbaugh is not going to get anything done."

That one sentence may seem like "engaging in sniping exchanges" to some, but not many.

mary…the Villagers will be replaying clips of Rush for days, if not weeks. Safe teevee, I'm fearful, is a thing of the past. Main teevee media is a very sophisticated and professional business. Main media recognizes when an overweight, hate-radio comedien should be elevated to equal footing with the president of the U.S. Very Serious people.

  • G-Mann

I didn't get a chance to hear the grand dragon, er I mean Rush speak. I did however here some real 'Merican senator call for the end of big governement. He called for the end of the Department of Education, and the end of the Federal Reserve. Both extremely practi… no wait, the Department of Education is the reason I had a chance to get an education, and the Federal Reserve keeps some corporation from dictating lending interests. It's like CPAC is just about keeping the classes the same and not letting people of low income chase the American Dream? That can't be right, they're real 'Mericans.

Oh wait, the American Dream is only open to real 'Mericans, who don't need big government handouts to save their stock dividends and bank holdings. Hmm why do I keep cotradicting myself?

  • Da King

    G-Mann,
The Deparment of Educaiton is not the reason you had a chance to get an education. The DOE wasn't created until the late 1970's. We did have education in this country prior to that. I'd even say we had better education prior to that. The DOE is a superfluous bunch of bureaucrats. They don't teach kids anything.

  • Da King

    Rev,
What's with all the bile aimed at talk show hosts ? Rush, Beck, etc…

It would be like me bitching endlessly about the leader of the Dems being Michael Moore or Keith Olbermann.

You really miss Bush, don't you ?

Why didn't you highlight Mitt Romney's speech ? Could it be because Romney does have ideas and does have something to say ? Romney might be the GOP nominee in 2012. I can guarantee you that Rush Limbaugh will not be.

  • The Reverend

    I missed Romney's speech.

Romney doesn't have any new ideas. But I'll read the transcript. Good luck with a Romney 2012 bid. The guy couldn't shoulder McCain out and he's not going to be any more popular with evangelicals in 2012, than he is now.

Rush is the defacto leader of the GOP.

I always like to go right to the top.

Beck is inciting violence. Keith and Mike don't incite violence.

  • Andrea

OxyContin causes brain damage and this it who conservatives look up to a man with 1/2 a brain.

  • averagejoe5

It's funny how one man who is on a radio show is now the supposed leader of the GOP. Why do you fear this man. He is a blowhard and 90% of the GOP believe it. He is making money hand over fist $57M a year talking sh*t and the lib take him serious. LOL

Andrea – So does cancer. We have a man one heartbeat from being the leader of America with a half a lobotomy and a former pot head and coke head and dope dealer for a president, he confessed this himself.

Rev are ya kiddin us with this? "Beck is inciting violence. Keith and Mike don't incite violence."

  • larry d.

The dems need a devil of equal gravitas to counterbalance The Messiah and I suppose Limbaugh fits the bill. It's what it's come to with this administration.

  • Da King

If Romney doesn't have any new ideas, how did he implement universal health care in Massachusetts when he was the governor there ? Never mind, I know you were just being a knee-jerk partisan. Reality doesn't enter into it.

  • Da King

    Andrea,
Has it ever occurred to you that when you disparage Rush for using drugs, you are also disparaging your hero Obama, who smoked dope and snorted coke through high school and in college ?

Granted, your half brain theory does explain Obama's economic plan.

  • frank

    Mr. King,
Obama's use of pot and coke mirrors the experience of a whole lot of people his age. Limbaugh's addiction to Oxycontin (synthetic heroin) was so severe that he had to run a scam on several doctors and involve his housekeeper in scoring the massive quantities he needed. Comparing the two is an example of intellectual sophistry. You are better than that.

  • larry d.

Three times frank! Obama did it three times in the taxi cab!

  • averagejoe5

Frank, there is a difference. Rush is a talk show host. Obama is our president.

That's the last time Larry. Don't forget off the end of a cabdrivers……
Did you want to watch the video again?

  • The Reverend

Rush is the person whi inserted himself into the discussion. He started it. I imagine because his ratings started to decline once Obama became president. What better way for a disinformational demagogue to peak those ratings, than to start a fight with Obama?

I wish he would take a few milligrams more than he could handle.

  • frank

    larry d. and average joe5,
Limbaugh's addiction was so severe, that he was daily injesting what for a non-addict would have been fatal. He took so much Oxycontin that he nearly lost his hearing. Do you really think that Obama's drug use compares with this? At the very least, whatever their level of drug use in the past, neither seems to be as damaged as Bush.
