Change

by The Reverend on January 19, 2009

in Barack Obama,intolerance

In the 1968 presidential race, Alabama Governor George Wallace ran his independent campaign appealing specifically to those who hated Martin Luther King Jr. and civil-rights leaders like him. Wallace, unbelievably, carried five southern states and won 10 million popular votes in 1968. That happened only forty years ago.

Today, America honors the righteous life-work of MLK. Tomorrow America inaugurates it's first black president, Barack Obama.

Yes. America. Can.

In honor of both…..if you didn't see HBO's star studded inauguration special yesterday….the following song by Bettye Lavette and Jon Bon Jovi was so moving it even brought a tear or two to The Reverend's eye…..

Obama's great DNC acceptance speech from August, 2008….

$150M down the drain while orphans bleed in the streets, single mothers endure the hardscrabble life, unemployed union workers live cardboard boxes and our seniors forego medication so they can dine on Friskers catfood.

  • fred

    Change and hope ain't cheap

  • Tbomb

    Yes, Larry, the Bush legacy…

  • Da King

    larry,
You might have a future in the Democratic party. You've figured out their game plan.

  • The Reverend

See…I post one snark-free…..and the jokesters come out. Can't win.

There's even a story about the inauguration costs, as compared to Bush, etc.

Seems as if the higher Obama inauguration costs are because of the much higher costs for security. Obama is, you know, wildly popular, unlike W., and so a whole bunch more people will be there today than came out to see the little cowpoke from Crawford.

Friskers? I thought that was top shelf.

  • larry d.

"Better than Bush" is a slogan that's going to lose its luster quickly and "But it's Historical" will follow quickly as well.

The inauguration costs are obscene and were obscene with Bush, too. Along with the campaign, it's costing $1 billion to install Obama, and that doesn't include costs associated with all the other presidential candidates. It's golden parachutes and CEO compensation times 1000.

  • The Reverend

Yes, the costs are high. As I've stated before….America is a very rich country….the richest ever.

It's the priorities and the practice of governing the many for the sake of the wealthy few….where the problems reside.

How much was it again that was stolen in the financial industry holdup?

  • larry d.

I don't know but all those financial industry fellows who paid for the inaguration might.

  • Da King

    Rev,
If your posts are going to start being snark-free, it will take us a while to get used to it.

No money was stolen in the financial industry collapse, other than maybe Madoff and what the government stole from the taxpayers to give to businesses. The rest was LOST. In capitalism, in the stock market, money can be made or lost. It isn't a crime when it's lost, but it sure does suck.
