Not a homemade, 20 mile range, Israeli tank shelling Gaza

Not a homemade, 20 mile range, Israeli tank shelling Gaza

From the NY Times

Israel moved its troops into Gaza starting a ground offensive eight days after launching an airstrike campaign in efforts to end rocket attacks from Hamas militants.

A statement from the Israel Defense Forces said that this second stage of the operation was intended to “bring about an improved and more stable security situation for residents of Southern Israel over the long term.”

Anyone believe that what's happening in Gaza will bring about an "improved…stable security situation"? I certainly do not.

430 Palestinians had been killed and some 2,200 wounded since the Israeli campaign began last Saturday.

Three Israeli civilians and one soldier have been killed in rocket attacks in the past week,

Israeli leaders are acting similarly to America's own international criminal duo, Bush-Cheney. The U.S terror twins have made America and the world oh-so-much safer. Our very own occupied territories in Iraq and Afghanistan have turned into an oasis of peace and harmony. I'm sure the current slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza by the Israeli military will usher in a comparable peaceful kingdom in and around the oh-so-holy-lands.

Thanks to the insane work of American evangelicals longing for a fairy-tale rapture, coupled with the never-ending lobbying by Jewish-American groups villifying anyone who questions the actions of Israel, United States media can only side with the Israeli aggressors and blame those being kept under an Israeli apartheid system.

World protests are going on now…similar to the world protests before the Iraq crime began. American teevee will keep the airing of those protests to a minimum…just as they did before America attacked the sovereign nation of Iraq. Nothing new about any of it.

I can't imagine what the Muslim extremist response will be to Israel's current onslaught. This particular slaughter is one of the worst I can remember.

This is very bad.

More here.

Rev, this has nothing to do wiith Judeo-Christian fairy-tales. (Why do you not talk the same about the Muslims martyrdom 72 virgin theory? Or their promises of riches if they waste their own lives killing the "infidels". Or how they have held back civil rights about 500 years, but you complain about America and it's freedoms. Aren't they just as horrible as the dark-ages crusaders.) This is about survival of a nation and the defense of it's citizens. Just as the US, Israel will only take so much. Then as the Toby Keith song says: "we're gonna stick a boot in your a**". At least these 2 countries are polite and tell the civilians to leave town before they come through. (Muslim terrorist kill the innocent.) Then they clean up and rebuild that area better than it was before.

In another post you said we have to understand their side of the story. What do you mean by that? What is their defense? I don't see it? Israel is protecting their land. Israel even tried to be nice and give some of the strip back to Palestine. Hamas is the religious side of this skirmish. Killing aimlessly and randomly in the name of their god.

I heard a Palestinian reporter talking on TV yesterday. His biggest complaint was that Isreal was being to harsh in their defense and that they were using to much fire power. They also said that civilians were being killed. Meanwhile they are shooting random missles and sending car bombs into Isreal not caring who they kill. Didnt they read their history and learn from Syria, Jordan and Egypt not to mess with Isreal. Hamas reminds me of the way the Japanese were portrayed on McHales Navy.

The scary thing is that Israel promised to use a nuke if there is an all out assault on their country. They won't hesitate to turn the middle east to glass. Armagedon may be right around the corner. Maybe now would be the right time to look into that fairytale you joke about…..

I do understand your point of view, average. And there's truth to be found in it.

Yes, Israel has the right to defend itself. Also, Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank have a right to live freely. While it is true that Hamas refuses to acknowledge Israel's right to exist, it is also true that Israel occupies land they are not entitled to, according to a UN resolution. The extremists on both sides cause the problems.

Palestinians were displaced when Israel was given state status in 1948. You can imagine how you would have felt if this had happened to you and your family. Their original beef was that Jews were not entitled to a country….and I see their point. As frank mentioned in a comment….Jews were granted land partially because Anglos felt guilty for the Holocaust. Germans, not Arabs, were responsible for that.

By 1967, Israel confiscated more lands then they were entitled, and never looked back. So, they carry responsibility right along with the Palestinians.

America pumps billions into Israel. Israel has nukes. Israel holds the Palestinians under an apartheid-like control situation. And then when conflict erupts…Israel uses overwhelming force against a basically helpless people.

Yes, Hamas should stop firing homemade rockets into Israel. But Gaza and the West Bank peoples have no real fighting power. For Israel to use American-style modern weaponry, like unmanned drones and helicopter gunships to destroy what they call "Hamas infrastructure"…..is worse than the Bush-Cheney cock-up in Iraq.

As far as the fairy tale rapture goes….this whole connection with a rebuilt Jerusalem Temple and an apocalytic rapture is so monumentally ridiculous, it deserves mockery. Worse is how these rapturists lend their support to middle east wars. Even worse is America's media coverage of the middle east. Look at the Beacon today. Not one picture or mention of yesterday's numerous world protests of Israel's actions.

The solution is a two state situation. I still don't think it will happen.

One thing I am sure of….Israel's aggression in Gaza won't be the final word.

Yes, Israelis are scrappy fighters. That isn't really the point. al-Qaeada fighters are scrappy too. What Israel hasn't been…is smart. A clear majority of Israel's population want a two state peaceful solution. Leadership continues to fail.

Does anyone know where I can find plans to build a "homemade rocket" in my garage?
