How's It Looking Out There?

by The Reverend on July 16, 2008

in 2008 election, Barack Obama, Bush White House, GOP, John McCain, corruption, economy, iran

Interesting to note that president Bush has flip-flopped on talking to Iran….

In a break with past Bush administration policy, a top U.S. diplomat will for the first time join colleagues from other world powers at a meeting with Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, The Associated Press has learned.

Official contacts between Iran and the United States are extremely rare and although Washington is part of a six-nation effort to get Iran to stop enriching and reprocessing uranium, the administration has shunned contacts with Tehran on the matter. Link

I know it's naive for Barack Obama to say he would engage Iran in direct talks. However, when the Great GOP Warrior Leader does so, it can only be understood as being resolute and….let me think…yeah…patriotic too.
____________

Much more interesting to note….(I'm not going to waste my time on the absolute bat-sh*t crazy talk about foreign policy and war and stuff yesterday by the Speaking in Tongues candidate John..I'll say anything…McCain.) This will have to suffice for now….

John McCain likes to paint Barack Obama as a naive follower on key national security issues. But by moving up his planned Afghanistan speech by two days to follow Obama's, and by agreeing that more U.S. troops are needed there, McCain appears to be following the Illinois Democrat on a major proposed shift for U.S. foreign policy. Link

First W. follows Obama's lead….then McNasty….now there's some f*cking leadership you can believe in, huh? This actually fits the black is white, up is down, communication pattern of the those who have all that, you know, "common sense". McSame's and the Chimp's following Obama's lead can't be "following", you know, by definition….so it has to be leadership…it just HAS to be.

I particularly enjoyed the money sentence by McCain yesterday, "I know how to win wars". What?..get shot down, captured and held prisoner for 5 years….then get released, divorce your wife and marry a rich beer heiress? Pardon me for ridiculing the total nonsense. Laughs all around…..or sobs….you decide.
__________

Barack Obama has an average 8% lead in national polls over John McCain….but the interesting developments are coming out of …..yep…..red states. North and South Carolina….yeah, you read that correctly…..are within the margin of error in latest polling. Link

Rachel Maddow, on Olbermann's "Countdown" last night, put up a poll from Arizona, you know, McStupid's home state. Did anyone see it? It couldn't possibly be correct….I realize that….but interesting, nevertheless. Arizona presidential polling shows Obama LEADING in Arizona by 3%, while Bob Barr captures 7% of the vote there.

McCain isn't even popular in his own backyard. And Barr, just like I warned, is doing well with all those crazy Constitution believers on the right who liked Ron Paul.
__________

I saved the worst for last.

I thought it appropriate…..because of the Beacon's lead story today on the collapse of the economy….to make mention of what the Resolute, Codpiece, Commander Guy, Decider, CEO President….had to say about market "fundamentals". Bush, without any hint of irony, actually said yesterday that, "the fundamentals of our economy are strong".

The dollar is so low we can't get under it, the stock market has lost about 25% of it's value in less than a year, there are even MORE foreclosures up ahead, consumer confidence numbers are dragging ass, fuel costs are crippingly outrageous, inflation is gaining full stride, and unemployment numbers are moving upward…..BUT….."the fundamentals are strong".

And people wonder in amazement at why The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are popular programs.

I like Ron Paul more than Bob Barr, But there is a movement growing to get these two to join forces. Two popular LP sites are both talking about a BarrPaul ticket. One is Barr Root and the other is Barr Paul 08. This ticket would spell trouble for the Gop for sure. I will leave the link if anyone wants to see

I would probably vote for a Barr Paul ticket. Because I lean conservative. John McCain hasnt done much to get my vote. If he would be Huckabee on the ticket I would give him serious consideration. I am not excited about anyone yet.

Looks like Obama's getting ready to do one of his patented flip flops, Reverend. This time he's going to follow McCain's lead on the surge, only he's about 18 months late:

Ben Keeler July 16, 2008 at 12:42 pm

What poll #s are you looking at.

The RCP Avergae as of right now says Obama +5 – highest it has been in like 3 days. McCain down by 3 in Arizona? Didnt see that poll. Not even a DNC commissioned poll would show that.

The Reverend July 17, 2008 at 6:50 am

1118 U. S. troops have died in Iraq since the escalation began in Jan. 2007.

The Mahdi Army agreed to stand down, the Sunnis were paid with handfuls of cash to not kill Americans…..and we still lost 1118 soldiers. That's no success. The Iraqis still haven't reached political reconciliation, the objective of the escalation.

And now we have 18,000 more troops in Iraq than when the escalation began.

Obama has stated repeatedly that the escalation has curtailed violence. Iraq still has no military solution. Obama took his strong opposition to the escalation down because it's now officially over…..and he recognizes that violence is down.

Obama has not changed his opinion about getting out of Iraq.

So calling for a pre-emptive flip-flop is a bit premature.

Ben: The poll was given on Countdown by Rachel Maddow and I didn't catch the pollster…sorry. If Obama gets to double figure leads by the middle of August….it will be a landslide. If he doesn't, primarily because of his Constitutional mistakes about FISA and guns, then the GOP, through their perennial voter disenfranchisement programs may have a chance to steal yet another election.

Da King July 17, 2008 at 10:41 am

"Obama has stated repeatedly that the escalation has curtailed violence."

And he also stated repeatedly that the surge WOULDN'T curtail violence. That's the whole point. Obama says anything and everything on every issue, whatever it takes to fool the rubes.

And then you pretend like that's leadership, and even that McCain and Bush are FOLLOWING Obama's lead. LOL. That's a good one. It's happy hour down at the Old Rev Bar And Grill. Drinks are on me, boys. Kool-Aid all around.

Recent polling shows McCain closing the gap with Obama, even though McCain is a pretty terrible candidate, because people are realizing Obama is an inexperienced and unqualified empty political suit who is making it up as he goes along.

Ben Keeler July 17, 2008 at 12:38 pm

well yes, one poll did show him by 8. I thought you were talking about a poll average.

Roy July 17, 2008 at 3:59 pm

The surge is real and the surge is working.

Political reconciliation is being made.

larry d. July 17, 2008 at 9:36 pm

Maybe you thought the Reverend was talking about a poll average because the Reverend wrote "an average 8 percent lead in national polls."

How he turned one mysterious poll he claims the Obamatons on MSNBC cited into that sentence is telling.

jimmy james July 17, 2008 at 11:04 pm

Whew, thanks Roy. I was worried. You make compelling arguments.

The Reverend July 18, 2008 at 7:05 am

The surge is over.

Obama was leading recently by 12 and 15 points….his lead now is single digits. I attribute most of the poll decline on all the lies. I've never witnessed so many lies by the media and McCain's guys, as I have this year.

America has reached an all time new level of political propaganda and deception. This must be what the Soviet population experienced back in the 70's and 80's.

Da King July 18, 2008 at 7:34 am

Rev says, " I attribute most of the poll decline on all the lies. I've never witnessed so many lies by the media and McCain's guys, as I have this year."

This kind of comment is what makes you the Rev, Rev.

Almost the entire media is serving as an Obama public relations arm (the network anchors didn't follow McCain overseas, they criticized him for going), McCain repeatedly denounces any sleazy attacks against Obama, Obama gets 10 times the media coverage that McCain gets, and the Rev thinks poor Obama, who flips flops and doubletalks on almost EVERY issue, who has almost no experience, who is rarely even asked a difficult question, is somehow being treated unfairly. Un-be-liev-able.

The Reverend July 18, 2008 at 9:13 am

The last comment reflects the Ostrich Perspective.

Ben Keeler July 18, 2008 at 3:53 pm

I think where the race is now is where it is likely to stay for a few wks or so.

Unless Obama's overseas trip is a complete disaster, which it has all the potential to be.

The Reverend July 19, 2008 at 8:33 am

I love how the Knee Padders have taken to pre-emptive Obama gaffe alerts.

Obama's overseas trip can only hurt him politically, according to the suck-job artists, if he makes a "gaffe".

I wonder which knob polisher gets to determine what that will be?

larry d. July 19, 2008 at 8:42 am

I just hope an overseas trip will spur some kind of interest in foreign affairs for Obama. Maybe he'll even come back and hold a meeting of that subcommittee he's supposed to be chairing.

Ben Keeler July 19, 2008 at 6:15 pm

That committe is about Afghanistan, so it will be nice he gets to see it first hand.

The Reverend July 21, 2008 at 7:33 am

Obama spoke out forcefully about the pre-emptive imperialistic aggression against Iraq. Didn't Obama show interest in foreign afairs when he took such an unpopular position in 2002?

He's doing what he needs to do to become president.
