Prime Example

The New York Times' Adam Nagourney shows us all how it is done…..

His remark at a private fundraiser in San Francisco about bitter blue-collar workers “clinging” to guns and religion was the kind of assertion that would be damaging to a candidate of any race. Inflammatory statements by Mr. Obama’s former pastor, Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., who is black, have been seized on by Republicans to present Mr. Obama as unpatriotic. An advertisement released by Republicans in North Carolina on Wednesday included that portrayal.

….

The statement by Mr. Obama’s wife, Michelle, that “for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country,” has been invoked by Republicans in an effort to portray Mr. Obama as culturally unlike the people he is asking to vote for him, a historically potent line of attack.

Nagourney is simply reporting on the "news". That's his job. Repeating Republican smear nonsense, of little to no import to American voters, has now become the way "journalism" is done. Knee Pad Media takes whatever smear or slur or rumor or gossip the Republican slime machine produces in their laboratories of lameness, turns it into "breaking news", rinses and then repeats the cycle. That's what passes as 21st century American political "coverage".

And all of this makes it very easy for potty-mouthed, yet patriotic, Saint McCain to seem oh-so-virginal and detached from any or all of it. McCain, as I have blogged about earlier, doesn't have to dirty his neo-conservative, lobbyist embracing, bloody hands…..not when the main media, and the NY Times no less, willingly does his work for him.

So Saint McSame can issue pious and self-righteous horsesh*t like this….

Republican John McCain asked the North Carolina GOP not to run a television ad that brings up the controversial former pastor of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

"We asked them not to run it," McCain told reporters on his campaign bus in Kentucky Wednesday. "I'm sending them an e-mail as we speak asking them to take it down.

"I don't know why they do it. Obviously, I don't control them, but I'm making it very clear, as I have a couple of times in the past, that there's no place for that kind of campaigning, and the American people don't want it," McCain said. Link

"Oh please, please don't throw me into the briar patch." Or something similar.

While media is embedded up the derriere of establishment-right access-to-power providers so deeply and firmly, there is simply no need for those establishment-right figures to do anything other than scratch their behinds and act as though they are oh-so-above all of these "breaking news" dirty tricks.

"..there's no place for that kind of campaigning…", McCain states boldly. Because The Reverend is fluent in Neo-Con Speak….allow me to give you the translation….

"I don't have to campaign like these North Carolina Republicans, there's no place for me in that type of campaigning. Others, who will work hard to insure my presidency, either in the media or in conservative circles (redundancy), may choose to do my dirty work for me….and naturally, I can't stop them and I will most likely benefit from all their nastiness, but it's not the campaigning I will do….because I don't have to.

What I will do in my campaign is express appropriate frustration and "maverick straight talk" over this dark practice….repeatedly assuring voters I am not for this stuff…..while reaping the bounty from it."

A simpler and easier to remember line could be…."I can pretend that I wouldn't say sh*t if I had a mouthful, in spite of calling my rich wife a c*nt"….all because those who do have a mouthful, those I've been incubating deeply in the dark recesses of my bowels, will say it in my stead."

Yep, that translation seems about right…..perhaps the punctuation needs work.

There's an obvious falsehood in your post, Rev – That "smear nonsense" the Times was talking about didn't originate from Republicans at all. It came from Democrats. Oops. You are actually speaking of the Democratic slime machine.

And you are blaming McCain for something he has condemned. That's dishonest too (and I saw Keith Olberdork do the exact same thing on his sorry excuse for a show last night with that Airhead America chick. How do you watch that nonsense ?).

Do you have any comments that aren't based upon lies ?

  • The Reverend

All of my postings are based on objective and verifiable truth.

It isn't from whom the smear originated….it is the 24/7 loop recycling of it by complicit media firmly embedded up the GOP's hiney.

Olbermann and Rachel Maddow speak truth. They're virtually alone in the GOP infested wild of Knee Pad Land.

The point here is that Obama opponents have nothing of substance to throw at him. Guilt by association smearing is the best that the "moral values" party can throw at him.

The frenzied state of last night's media whores, anxious to eliminate the one Democrat who can crush McCain and thus those big fat tax cuts for most of the name brand teevee talkers……was extremely noticeable…..just like the same whores in the media made me feel when they were lying us into war and occupation.

Those reading the teleprompters, who make millions, would have to give up an additional $91 K per year in taxes with Obama's economic proposal. That only increases their frenzied and desperate attempts to defeat him.

It's all quite sickening. It's like watching sick people who have such a high fever they start hallucinating.

"All of my postings are based on objective and verifiable truth."

Dammit, Rev ! I just spit my coffee all over my computer screen. I'd appreciate a warning e-mail or phone call before you spring something that crazy on me in the future.

"Olbermann and Rachel Maddow speak truth".

Holy Fairy Tale, Batman ! Somebody drank the Kook-Aid, I mean, the Kool-Aid. Olberdork has his head so far up Obama's rear end that he wouldn't know the truth unless it was delivered intravenously.

Btw, Olberdork just had to issue an apology for fellow truth-teller Maddow's lies from the previous time she was on his show.

You and I actually agree about the sorry state of our media, even though you have the bias exactly backwards (except for Fox News and talk radio, of course).

I have tons of substantive stuff to throw at Obama, and have done so. Ironically, chief among those is the fact that Obama has no substance.

And I really think Hillary has a better chance of beating McCain. I'm getting the feeling that Obama's pan has flashed. I also love the way the Timidity Of Hope doesn't want to debate anymore, after finally getting some tough questions in debate # 21. The guy's a lightweight. Did you hear his gas price speech yesterday ? Same old tired Dem talking points that will NEVER help. Demonize the oil companies, tax the hell out of them, yadda, yadda, yadda. Obama will damage america badly if he is left to implement his plans. And just to be clear, before you start spouting off about neocons and wingnuts and such, as is your wont, this is NOT a defense of McCain and it is NOT a defense of Bush. It is a critique of Obama.
