Obama has had to deal with the Farrakhan smear for years. He has never waffled about his denouncing the Muslim leader's views in their totality when it comes to the Jewish issue.

Yes, the Jews have suffered mightily in the past.

My point remains. McCain is honored and pleased to receive the endorsement of an anti-Catholic, anti-Muslim, anti-non-believer evangelical extremist. That's the bigot part.

Hagee's interest in Israel has nothing to do with Israel being America's ally in the middle east. His interest is in getting America to militarily prepare the region for the restoration of the Jewish Temple religion, followed by the Second Coming when God allegedly will exterminate all non-believers, including Jews, in the eternal Holocaust fires of hell.

McCain was pleased to get this endorsement.

Obama had to do everything but "pinky swear" that he rejected Farrakhan and his anti-Israel nonsense.

Double standard. Both extremists are hate-mongers and religionists who divide us. Democrats must reject openly these extremists. Republicans can be honored and pleased to get their endorsement.

Farrakhan calls Judaism a gutter religion. Hagee calls the Catholic sect of Christianity the great whore that God will reject and destroy.

Enough said.

Rev--I agree there is enough hypocrisy to serve up a dish to all at the table...

However, herein lies the difference, TO ME--Hagee doesn't like Catholics---Hagee hasn't proclaimed that Catholics should be wiped off the face of the planet by human intervention (such as a war against Catholics)---you may argue, neither has Farrakhan, and yet Farrakhan implies that Ahmadenijad is probably right---"Let's kill all the Jews! Wipe them off the face of the planet! Take back Israel for our selves--let the rest go float upside down in the ocean! Judaism is a "gutter religion". The world doesn't need Jews!---

This attitude is scary to people like me---although I am a completely non-religious, secular world citizen, who eschews religion in all its forms, the fact that just fifty years ago the world pretty much turned its collective back on the Jewish people absolutely instills in me a healthy, robust mistrust of those who speak aloud such sentiments as; Judaism is a "gutter religion" and until the day Hagee starts advocating the destruction of the Vatican (Catholic equivalent of Israel) then, I would take what he has to say with a grain of salt---but watch him VERY carefully at all times ---put yourself into the shoes of those who have been brutally murdered by the millions and just imagine their sense of Historical Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, such as Jews, Native Americans, Armenians, Tutsis and Hutus, Darfurians, women , as a whole half of humankind, and so on.

OH P.S. Rev--lack of religion does not mean lack of morality, compassion, and intelligence or faith, for that matter.

I'm sorry... I'm just having trouble making the connection. I understand Hagee likes Israel (End times, Jesus was a Jew, whatever) but how does this make him a bigot? Most of America views Israel as a friend. They're the only middle east country that doesn't have a problem with us.

So the only thing I want answered is... how does that make him a bigot?

Maybe we should start a new category of non-endorsements. McCain's up by one with Dobson. If we could get Sharpton or someone to disavow Obama, we'd have a tie.

King: Yes, McCain distanced himself a bit by saying he didn't agree with all of Hagee's views.

Would it have been okay for Obama to have said the same about Farrakhan?

Truth is McCain SOUGHT Hagee's blessings, was PLEASED and HONORED when he received his endorsement.

Those same words coming from Obama's mouth over Farrakhan's endorsement would have meant the END for the Obama candidacy.

Double standard still intact.

And it's a double....double standard. Republican/Democrat/extremist endorsement double standard.
Christian/Muslim/extremist double standard.

What I didn't state in my post was the why. Without the evangelical wingnut vote, at least a sizable portion, McCain and the GOP don't have much of a prayer. Dobson, a different Christian extremist, said he would never vote for McCain.

larry: Hagee does not support Israel for any other reason than his childish "understanding" of eschatological events allegedly prophesied in the Bible.

Hagee has no interest in Israel other than how Israel plays a part in his own mentally-ill fantasia surrounding the "end of times".

Just as WMD was mouthed as an excuse for you-know-what.....so too, Hagee may mouth Israeli independence as holding some importance to him. But what he's really interested in is the return of Jesus for the rapture event. In Hagee's warped and disturbed "thinking", Israel must be completely restored before that can happen, Temple and all.

And I guess I'll post McCain's reply to the Hagee issue here too, since the Rev loves this non-story so much that he has started multiple threads about it.

"Yesterday, Pastor John Hagee endorsed my candidacy for president in San Antonio, Texas. However, in no way did I intend for his endorsement to suggest that I in turn agree with all of Pastor Hagee's views, which I obviously do not. I am hopeful that Catholics, Protestants and all people of faith who share my vision for the future of America will respond to our message of defending innocent life, traditional marriage, and compassion for the most vulnerable in our society." - John McCain
