Gimenez gone to Buffalo, Toregas returns to Akron
Posted June 24th, 2008 by Stephanie Storm
Batting a mere .219 through 50 games, Wyatt Toregas was well aware of the fact that he was scuffling at the plate.
But he’d only been in Buffalo for two months. Certainly, the Indians up-and-coming catching prospect would be given more time to try and find his way in his first exposure at the Triple-A level.
Under normal circumstances, he probably would have.
But while Toregas struggled, Aeros catcher Chris Gimenez was having more than a “normal” first half in Akron. In fact, calling Gimenez’s start “phenomenal” is no stretch considering he’d increased his batting average to .339 with an Eastern League-leading .487 on-base percentage 52 walks when he was called up to Buffalo last week to swap places with his former mentor Toregas.
“G did what he had to do and the organization has to make decisions,” Toregas said. “I wasn’t producing offensively like G was, and right now the Indians are in need of a bat. In understand that.”

Hi Stephanie,
Don’t you think the Aeros are going to have to deal with the reality of missing players due to promotion quite a bit in the near future? Hodges and Crowe are real likely to go up to Buffalo soon. I don’t see much blocking Head and Rodriguez either. And the oft injured comedy pitching duo of Martin and Lewis should be ready to move within the next month. Not sure the replacements from Kinston will be quite as advanced.

I think it is time to give recognition to Stephanie Storm and all her co workers that “cover” the Akron Aeros–why do they always put a very short story on the 3rd or 4th sports page? Akron is in first place and they surely deserve more coverage than they get. Stephanie does a great job, but come on–give her some front page coverage of the Aeros. Of course, now is the time for the Indians and Buffalo teams to start taking the good players from the Aeros and then we have to start all over again. Keep the team intact till the end of the season and then make the trades. AKRON DESERVES TO HAVE RECOGNITION FOR HAVING A GREAT TEAM. And while I am venting about the Aeros–what about the Racers. Come on editors–this is Akron–not Cleveland–let the Plain Dealer cover the Indians and other teams.
